Danae Shepard, registered dietitian

MS, RD, CNSC

Our relationships with food and our bodies are deeply personal and often complex, which is why I approach our work with respect, empathy, and curiosity. I don’t take it lightly when someone chooses me to be their dietitian – it is truly an honor to walk this path with you.

My philosophy: My practice is grounded in Intuitive Eating, body neutrality, and evidence-based care. You won’t find calorie counting, meal plans, or strict exercise routines here. We focus on sustainable behaviors, internal cues, and how you actually feel – not numbers on a scale or food rules. Instead, my work helps you tune out external noise, honor your body, and build a way of eating that supports both your health and your peace of mind.

Food has always played meaningful role in my life and in my family – we love to eat, we love to cook, but more importantly, we love what food means to us – connection, history, nostalgia, fun, experimentation, and comfort. One of my mottos is food is more than just food, and it is a throughline in my counseling approach and philosophy.

My credentials and professional experience: I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in psychology from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, followed by my Master’s degree and dietetic internship at Eastern Illinois University. Since becoming a registered dietitian in 2020, my background has spanned acute inpatient clinical care, long term care/short term rehab facilities, and one-on-one nutrition counseling. I also hold an advanced credential as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), specializing in complex clinical nutrition.
